Designers at home.. life in flux

So sorry for the silence for the past few days... it has been a little wild here and this coming week is going to make last week look like a cake walk!  We finally had some photos taken, by a real professional, last week and I snapped a few myself which could never compare!  But the kitchen was styled and the house was clean so it is always a good idea to check and see what will be seen through the lens..  I was thinking about it though and I realized that I, like I am sure many designers, live in a constant state of change.  We are always changing this or that - a chair here- pillows everywhere - accessories like crazy!  (I really do feel bad for my husband but what can you do!)  So this is my still my first table and chairs since the remodel in the kitchen... something new is coming though.

How about you- are you a changer/exchanger throughout the house?

For those who asked the chairs can be found here/the table is custom. :)

Dark grey in the kitchen..

I love the dark details in this kitchen it makes it feel so warm and welcoming.  Usually I love the light filled kitchen but this seems so much more fall to me.  Beautiful!

Kitchen Lanterns..

Ummm.. what can I say here, I adore the small lanterns hung in this kitchen.  So simple and almost out of scale but in reality absolute perfection for this type of understated style.  The stools are not to shabby either.  These lantern style pendants reminded me of some that I am loving from Circa right now!

This small version of the Morris Lantern is a cutie and I can see extending the chain to get this look.  Perfection.  However, if you know where a couple of little guys just like this can be found please send over the info as I would love to recommend them for a project I am working on!

Unique

I know I was going to post about our trip to LA today but the schedule just did not allow.  So I am sharing this amazing bar photo.  I love the unique construction of this piece, it is so very unique!  Lately it is harder and harder to come by really unique inpiration images and this one is just dreamy to me.

You can see more of the space here.

Also, congratulations to Andrea at The French Basketeer on winning the Nathan Turner book giveaway!

tolix in the kitchen

I love tolix as I am sure if you have read the blog for a while you should know.  I have 3 stools as my new island, they are the natural finish, and they are the best!  These in yellow are so fun in this otherwise simple and clean kitchen.  They give it that little something that makes the space special.

greige and white kitchen..

It was nice to take a day to rest this weekend because this week is going to get moving quickly!  We are starting our renovation this week on the kitchen finally and I am excited, I would be more excited if I did not own four million glasses that I have to wrap up!!!  I know that I am obsessed with glassware and apparently bowls but really I did not know I was that bad (note to self: do not buy any more glasses).  Aside from that I am still undecided on a color for the cabinets and the walls, I will try to get some pictures up to get your opinion on them  this week.

So I thought I would start the week off with some pictures of what my kitchen does not look like to give us all some inspiration about the subject.

Happy Monday!

a fresh look..

When I first came across this home it was the kitchen that caught my eye, but I love fresh use of purple with the grey.  I had two cabinets similar to these built on either side of my fireplace and I am trying to figure out which paint colors I want to use.  Do I go grey to match the kitchen island and then a slightly lighter or darker shade of the same for the walls?  Or do I use a creamy white as the backdrop?

The other think I love about this space is the mix- lately I have been loving the mix of modern in with a more relaxed country vibe.  What do you think?

Dream House Alphabet: I

I is for Island
When I think of 'I' words for my future home, many words come to mind: Inviting, Inspiring..oh and ISLAND.
I'm pretty sure its safe to say that I'm not the only one who wants an island in their dream kitchen.
Extra prep space, extra storage space, and a whole lot of extra beauty.

This is my dream kitchen island:
via Rue
Stop drooling long enough for me to explain why I love it:

1. Carrara Marble is a MUST.
The kitchen cousins broke my heart one episode when they said carrera marble in the kitchen isn't practical due to how easily it stains but pshh, not going to let it stop me! If it waterfalls like this, even better.

2. It is all one level.
I'm not a huge fan of when the part where people sit is bumped up...it seems less crisp and modern to me.

3. There is no stove top.
I'm fairly clumsy and accident prone so I wouldn't want a stove top on there. Also, I want a big fat industrial range and oven so it just wouldn't work.

What would your "I" be? Do you have any picky island preferences like me? xo

The kitchen island..

We are knee deep in our kitchen island remodel and I am hoping that I love it when we finish!  It is hard to feel the love mid project.  I know it will be beautiful but it is a BIG change for the room.  It is just big in general.. bigger than I am used to.  We took out the existing island and added to each side to accommodate more storage and make it more useful in the space.  I am getting excited to see it all completed!
