| The next area in my new home that I'm tackling is this far wall in the kitchen. It is next to the dining table. Right now it is basically a BLANK (boring) slate. I painted the walls Clark + Kensington's "Illumination" (a new color due out in Spring 2014) it is a warm white shade with pale grey undertones. If you read my blog with any frequency then you'll recall I painted the main room and hallway a deep charcoal color. In contrast to that area I wanted the kitchen and sun porch area to be a crisp, light shade. I've decided to hang my over sized tack board on the far left wall. (see inspiration image) It'll be a great spot for invitations, inspirational photos, a calendar etc. I'm also going to paint the wall under the tack board with chalk board paint. It will create a little contrast but they are also pretty functional. (and fun for the kids). I have two metal bamboo chairs in black (plus six more that need a coat of paint). I'm planning to place those on either side of the marble table pictured above. This is also the area that I'm going to set up my bar. (cause this mama likes a pretty cocktail set up). Finally, I've ordered simple bamboo shades and am contemplating ordering this handblown glass light fixture in shiny nickel. (if I go with the nickel, I'm purchasing brass pulls for the kitchen cabinets)....I'll be sure to post the after pictures in a few weeks! I can't share all the details because I may be collaborating with a website/blog to feature a "final" reveal! But I'd love to continue to share some sneak peeks with you! |

Grey in my kitchen
Our kitchen has been finished for just about a year now and we love love it. I am so excited to be able to share some of the beautiful photos that Ashlee took for us while she was here. The way she photographs is so so amazing! Just the right feeling for my design style.
I am so excited to share the finished product with you first!

Thanksgivnig centerpiece..
Decorating the table for Thanksgiving dinner is always one of my favorite things... I worked on planning ahead this year but I changed my mind when the time came. We have an early dinner for our family each year, this year was one of the largest dinners I have hosted. With 17 people to feed and seat I took a little extra time once the turkey was in the oven to work on the tables.
I had a simple idea which included the votives that I collected last year and some little pumpkins I had around the house for decoration, and it evolved into this fun centerpiece with feathers, antlers and dried magnolia mixed with fresh greenery from the neighbors trees. My mom is the best at this kind of thing so while she was here we worked on adding to it and making something I loved, that was low enough to not inhibit the conversation at dinner. The little faux candles make it so I can socialize and have the table completely ready as the sun sets with out worrying about burning down the house or forgetting to light the candles.

Designers at home.. life in flux
So sorry for the silence for the past few days... it has been a little wild here and this coming week is going to make last week look like a cake walk! We finally had some photos taken, by a real professional, last week and I snapped a few myself which could never compare! But the kitchen was styled and the house was clean so it is always a good idea to check and see what will be seen through the lens.. I was thinking about it though and I realized that I, like I am sure many designers, live in a constant state of change. We are always changing this or that - a chair here- pillows everywhere - accessories like crazy! (I really do feel bad for my husband but what can you do!) So this is my still my first table and chairs since the remodel in the kitchen... something new is coming though.
How about you- are you a changer/exchanger throughout the house?
For those who asked the chairs can be found here/the table is custom. :)

Feeling fancy...
So have you had your house or your work photographed - professionally? I am sure many of you have.. I have not aside from commercial projects that I work on. This week my favorite photographer.. Ashlee is coming to take our family photos at the house and to snap some pics of my remodeled kitchen. Some real photos that I can use and share, this is a big step for me as I know I have been holding out on all of you for almost a year about how the kitchen project turned out. Personally - I love love it - I hope you do to! I promise to share once they come in!
I would love to hear your experiences with having your projects and/or home photographed. I know it is a pretty personal thing as we all interpret our design differently.
oh and don't forget to get your entry in for the Vintage by Nina book giveaway! We have another book giveaway coming later this week!

Thoughts on home...
I wanted to share today's "new home" design choice with you. I'm going to install glass front doors on the largest cabinet in my kitchen. It will only house my mix of vintage and new dishes and glasses...Here's a peek at some beauties, various shades and my final color choice! eek!! Tomorrow's plan: Searching for my counter top choice!

Thoughts on home...the living area
Wow, it's been an insane week. I moved into my almost finished home on Tuesday (a huge thank you and kisses to: Matty, Dad, Mom + Joel for all your help). To say it has been a busy week is an understatement. My life is pretty much packed in boxes and I still need to set up my office and redo my kitchen. (It is a construction zone without a counter top, sink or finished cabinets). I figure most of my clients undergo kitchen renovations and live in disarray. I can too!
As most of you know, this was a post divorce downsize for me. The living room area is pretty small so I'm trying to figure out the placement of my furniture..I ordered an 8 x 10 jute rug (it's coming today) and I plan to layer a smaller version of this rug (or something similar) over it.
I then need to place my furniture and other things..I'm still a bit torn about the arrangement of the tv. I have a den but it won't be finished for some time as it's currently a three season room.
I do know I'm dealing with the placement of two large chairs, a little stool or two, a 36" round zinc table, a book shelf, a dresser (hoping for the tv) and a sofa.
I'm always keeping my eyes open for inspiration. This am I was looking through Domaine.
I especially like the celebrity section. (mind you, I have a fraction - if that, of their budget)
My living room will also incorporate vintage and new lighting, over sized accessories, artwork, layered pillows and of course design books!
I'm loving Cameron Diaz's Kelly Wearstler designed space and Molly Sims laid back abode.
On a side note:
I can't afford the faucet I want...boo
I might just go with something a like this instead! I also am going to install smaller backsplash tiles much like Molly's.

Happy Friday, Happy Home
Hi y'all. I came across adorable designer Gen Sohr and her home in this month's issue of Matchbook magazine. I love her style, and the fresh, updated classic look of her abode. I thought it would be the perfect post to follow my classic style segment......
On a house note.....the hardwood floors are being refinished and stained over the next three days! Moving day is set for Tuesday....Stay tuned for some deets next week! The kitchen (love her kitchen!) is in shambles but I'll live and be eating either raw meals or take out for about a month!

KITCHEN:
Here are my thoughts: I'm going with a 12 x 24" slate kitchen floor. I originally wanted to use a slightly smaller tile and lay it out in a herringbone pattern (like the Thomas Smythe kitchen below) but thought I may go with a herringbone back splash instead.
