Halloween Throwback DIY: Gold Skull

I was at Michael's the other day grabbing some watercolour supplies and was happy to spot that this year they restocked the little cardboard skull that I used for my gold skull DIY last year.
This skully used to be a permanent figure on my coffee table, adding the perfect amount of edge to an otherwise pretty space. The zebra has since taken over, but I brought this guy back out for some Halloween fun!
Pretty glamorous for a dead guy, right? Check out the full throwback DIY HERE. I promise it is quick, easy and inexpensive.
Do you guys go all out or minimal with your Halloween decor?

Watercolor Wednesday

I've been slacking on Watercolor Wednesday the past few weeks and I've been missing it as a de-stresser. Lately I've been feeling very anxious and have been waking up with a sore jaw. Have any of you experienced this? I consulted Dr.Google (I know they advise against this but he gives such great diagnostics and usually leads one to believe they are dying of multiple ailments...I need this heads up!!) and apparently sore jaw in the morning means you are clenching or grinding your teeth at night. I do NOT like the sounds of that one bit. Hopefully the cottage this week will help me relax.

Anyways, I painted this on Monday and woke up considerably less sore on Tuesday. I've said it before, but painting really is a mind clearing process. While it's not a perfect painting, it is exactly what the doctor ordered.
Today's watercolor is inspired by a vignette from the amazingly fierce Kelly Wearstler. Girl kills it EVERY.DAMN.TIME. She is fearless in her designs, and I admire her so much.

Happy Hump Day lovelies!

Watercolor Wednesdays: Glamorous Desk Vignette

Today's watercolor is inspired by one of my favourite images that I've seen floating around the internet lately. It feels so glamorous and layered and sophisticated and collected.
Does anybody know the original source?

Happy Wednesday!

Wednesday's Doodles #4

An eclectic foyer vignette from my imagination to paper. A mix of jewel tones, golds, and a little leopard for good measure. Happy hump day everyone!

I Spy

I spy with my little eye something that is gorgeous.
Audrey Hepburn, obvi, but I'm talking about the magnifying glass!
I found it at HomeSense for only $9.99. I fell in love with the lucite handle and the golden accents. I noticed a small scratch on the lens, and got a couple dollars off. Good detective work (get it?).

It reminded me of some of my favourite vignettes that have been floating around the blogosphere lately, including this one from The Every Girl.

Geometry Gems

I'm crazy in love with geometry, and I'm not talking math homework here people. No, no, I'm talking about a good geometric print. So contemporary, yet classic.
I've been on the hunt in my town for a good geometric fabric for a DIY project. Even though this is a huge trend in decor right now, my local fabric stores just don't seem to be catching on.

I've turned to hunting online for the perfect fabric, using the above photo as my inspiration. I just love it. Designer Fabrics seems to have the a lot of options, and most importantly, it's location is in Toronto only an hour away from my houseThis means I can make some time to visit the store, saving shipping costs and allowing me to touch and see the textiles in person.
Windsor
Sultana Lattice
Do you like these two options? Or do you think I should do something with some more colour? You all have great taste, and I could use your advice! :)

This One's for the Fellas: Perfect Bachelor Pad Accessory

This week I'm staying with my boyfriend in Halifax, and let me just state that the apartment is the epitome of student bachelor pad. While the boys might not be getting the award for super chic (or super tidy for that matter), their place showcases an eclectic mix of leather furniture, big screen TVs, and sports memorabilia.
One piece of theirs that I am especially drawn to is an old Alexander Keith's chalkboard that they have hung up on the wall. This piece was being thrown out by a local pub due to damage in one corner, and so the roomies claimed it for their very own. You can find similar items by inquiring at local pubs, restaurant suppliers, antique shops, and online vendors.
Alexander Keith's is a famous beer brewed in Nova Scotia, so the piece incorporates the area's history, along with style and function all in one. I can see the boys getting a lot of great use out of this piece:

They haven't styled around the piece in any real way, so I got a little bit creative and put together a board of how to really polish off this look:
Create a masculine, purposeful vignette by adding a dark bar cart that can easily be wheeled around for entertaining. A black lamp helps to break up the whiteness of the rental walls, and a metal bar stool and pendant emphasize a manly, industrial vibe. Stack some sports books and cocktail recipe books on top.  Finish off the look by adding a stainless steel  ice bucket, beer glasses, and of course alcohol to compliment the restaurant theme of the chalkboard.
What do you think? The perfect bachelor pad accessory or what?
