The Things That Matter: Guest Posting at York Avenue

You've all read Nate Berkus's book 'The Things the Matter', right? It's about how possessions become important to us for sentimental reasons, it's a great read. Today I'm guest posting over at York Avenue in her series 'The Story Behind my Favourite Piece' inspired by Nate's point that things do, in fact, matter. I'm sharing the story behind one of my most beloved belongings. Head on over and check it out! You will love Jackie, her studio apartment was recently featured on the Everygirl. As a fellow studio apartment dweller, trust me when I say it's amazing! What items do you own that have a special meaning?

DIY Leopard Acrylic Tray

After last week's one dollar dino post, I had a couple of e-mails asking about my leopard lucite tray.
It's actually a fantastically simple DIY inspired by the lovely Eileen of A Creative Day.
Eileen's tray was inspired by the 'les touches' fabric and was created very simply with a gold leaf pen.

I was in love, and knew I had a small lucite tray that needed some leopard loving of it's own (I purchased it at Home Sense for around $5). AND it just so happened that I had the same gold leaf pen, so how could I not?
I went with a more traditional leopard design.

Now it's a perfection place for jewelry:

Or even office supplies:

I just love it!
Hope you had a great weekend dolls xo

My Office Space {in progress}

So you might have heard me mention that my bedroom/living room also serves as my office space (and dressing area...but the closet is nowhere near presentable atm). Today, I thought I'd share with you the desk area as it is SO FAR. I am planning an amazing inspiration board but I've hit a delay on materials. Luckily I found an awesome etsy vendor who solved all my dilemmas, I just have to wait for the mail now, but more on that later.
The chair was a DIY I did before I blogged. It's covered in a navy and cream traditional toile.
The Calendar is a Barbie Fashion Calendar. Dug wayyyy back in the archives to find you this gem (my third post ever) on how this calendar can be used to make great art when the year is up. You should really check it out!
I love my lucite tray (HomeSense) which corrals all of my odds and ends.

If you're wondering where my desk sits in relation to the rest of the room, here:
And yes I need some curtains, I know..I know.

When I'm not in bed blogging, I'm at the desk. Where do you blog?

Waiting...

It's Saturday, which means that the bf returns from his NYC trip today! I know I'm used to long distance, but since he was in another country this week, not being able to text or talk has been lonely!
Here is how I've been spending my Saturday anxiously awaiting his arrival:
1) Wore my fun tribal/ikat shorts out and about
2) Painted my nails in OPI's "My Chihuahua Bites"
3) Finished my Domino book that my guy got me for my birthday..
right in time because I received this Design Sponge book in the mail from
my lovely and thoughtful friend Breana. Thank you so much Bre for all of your support and love!
4) Finally found some acrylic trays. So happy.
^ Bre and I at graduation.
Hope you all are having a great weekend! I'll be posting again tomorrow in honour of  Canada Day!
