Las Vegas Market January 2014 {day 1}

 

After a quick trip to LA for their show on Friday we hopped on a plane for Vegas on Sunday to hit Las Vegas Market Center for a couple of days.  The view from the plane was beautiful.. (it looks kinda like an ad for Southwest- not intentionally).  We hit the ground running at the show and I was so impressed with the addition of new vendors and the new pieces available!  

 

A quick stop at Visual Comfort is always worth while.  This piece was huge and amazing.

 

Four Hands always has some great pieces and their arrangements did not disappoint this time around.

 

I think that this wall paper in the Global Views showroom was one of my favorite things from the entire trip, I took more than enough pictures of it.

 

The rugs at Dovetail were perfection.

 

Noir never fails to impress me with detailed and unique pieces.

 

I am currently obsessing a little bit over the blue jars, I have added a few to the shop and plan on increasing the selection a bit as they are great accent pieces. I love them with the mustard yellow on these chairs.

Fifth Avenue Style {Design Library}

 

When I received the advance copy of Howard Slatkin's Fifth Avenue Style I was so excited to unlock my treasure from the layers of wrapping it arrived in and I am just as excited to be sharing it with you now.  Howard has put together an amazing book chronicling his creation of his beautiful home.  Each room was created with painstaking attention to detail by an amazing group of craftsmen in Howard's vision.  I love the down to earth approach he takes in explaining his choices for this showpiece of a home and his drive and patience is simply inspiring!  A gorgeous book for the design enthusiast in all of us.

creating interest with wallpaper...

 

I am not the biggest fan of wallpaper (I have had to strip a bathroom of paper that was put on with industrial strength glue) but this is pretty amazing if you ask me.  I love the bold graphic nature of these pieces and their ability to completely change the feeling of age in the rooms.

Wallpaper Weigh In & Guest Post on Bijou and Boheme

I'm beginning this post with some exciting news....a nursery moodboard that I created is being featured on the fabulous Christine's blog Bijou and Boheme today! Please be sure to check it out.
If you saw this post, you already know I'm a huge fan of Christine and her gorgeous blushy home!

I spent yesterday scouring the sample room at my school to find the perfect wallpaper for the condo's powder room and potentially the foyer. I knew I wanted something dark, moody and potentially with an air of chinoiserie. This is what I found and I'm pretty obsessed and shocked because usually the sample room is pretty picked over. What do you think?:

I love how it looks painted, and it sort of reminds me of Nina Campbell's Parroquet, but all grown up:

 

 In the foyer I would probably just frame a large piece to go on top of the teak credenza, like this:

And in the powder room (because it is small and you don't spend a tonne of time in there so it's the place to really go balls out) I would do the entire thing:

DIY Print Art

If you're looking for an inexpensive art solution, then this is perfect for you! I made the above prints simply using some wallpaper and frames.

It's as easy as three simple steps:

STEP ONE:
Visit your local wallpaper store and ask for some samples of high end, beautiful wall paper that you think might work in your space.This will be your print...and the best part is that it is absolutely free!

I loved the demask print in the bottom left, but decided to go with the branch pattern in black and white, as well as white and purple. Plum is the accent colour in my bathroom (which is the room I was planning to hang these in), so I liked the idea of using the same print in two different colours, and my shower curtain has similar branches on it.

STEP TWO:
Buy some nice frames, make sure it has a nice matte to give the print a polished look. I went to my local Walmart and picked up these silver frames for around 20 dollars each. I liked them because they had a white matte and a smaller silver matte in the middle. Frame the wallpaper (you can use the matte to crop the image exactly where you'd like it). You can crop three different areas of the same wall paper to make each frame different, but unified and cohesive.

STEP THREE:
Hang your art! Hang your frames in whatever way you want! I chose to hang all 3 in a level row, in the pattern of black branch, purple branch, black branch. Do whatever suits your room and your style.
